Dr. Sarah Halvorson's Focus on Agriculture and Rural Economies

Dr. Sarah Halvorson brings an integrative, holistic approach to her geography courses 91短视频, guiding students in framing research questions that inform policy, programs, and community action. Dr. Halvorson creates opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world application, mentoring many students throughout her time 91短视频 — including Kelly Rogers, whose master’s thesis on gender, development, and conservation in Northern Tanzania led to a recently published article in Gender, Place and Culture.
With a longstanding interest in agriculture and rural economies, Dr. Halvorson’s work addresses global challenges such as global water governance and equity, environmental hazards, deglaciation, climate change, smart agriculture, and food security. In 2023, she completed a Climate Smart Agriculture project in collaboration with colleagues in Bhutan. Through farmer-to-farmer trainings, the project emphasized the value of local knowledge in adapting to climate change in the Eastern Himalayas.
Dr. Halvorson hopes to continue this work and remains committed to experiential learning that helps students make meaningful impacts beyond the classroom.
