Confidentiality of student records
ODE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality. All disability-related documentation is securely stored and is not part of a student’s official academic record.
Information about a student’s disability will only be shared under the following conditions:
- With the student’s written consent
- As permitted by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Requesting or releasing records
To request or release your disability documentation, please complete the Release of Information Authorization Form (PDF).
You may request to:
- Obtain a copy of your records
- Share your information with a third party, such as:
- Parents or guardians
- Another college or university
- Vocational rehabilitation services
Exceptions to confidentiality
In limited circumstances, ODE may be required to release information without student consent:
- When ordered by a court or civil rights investigator
- To university personnel when necessary for legitimate educational purposes (as allowed by FERPA)
- During internal audits or compliance reviews, under strict confidentiality protocols
