Curriculum Review
Curriculum changes are proposed by tenure-track faculty and approved by the faculty member's department chair and college dean prior to submission for review and approval to the Academic Standards and Curriculum Committee (ASCRC), Graduate Council, the General Education Committee, and the Writing Committee. These committees assure that the proposed changes meet current academic policy and standards. Proposals are then voted on by the Faculty Senate. The Office of the Provost coordinates submission of UM's Level 1 and Level 2 curriculum change proposals to the Montana Board of Regents (BOR), via the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE). delineates the responsibilities held by the board for monitoring and approving proposals for new offerings and modifications to existing offerings 91短视频.
All curriculum changes are routed for approval through CourseLeaf - UM's new Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) platform. All required information is either typed directly into the electronic forms, or uploaded as attachments to the proposal. Each step in the approval process, also known as "Workflow" is recorded by the platform and becomes the "Approval Path" demonstrating the participation of approvers at each stage.
Upcoming Deadlines:
Fall Curriculum Deadline:
- Friday, September 26th, 2025 - Curriculum Deadline Memo
Request to Plan (RTP):
- July 30th, 2025 (for September BOR meeting)
- October 1st, 2025 (for November BOR meeting)
The timing of curriculum proposals is driven by the due dates maintained by OCHE and by the BOR meeting schedule. Please see the following links to pages on the Montana University System (MUS) website for further information.
Please be aware that although Level I and Level II proposals are accepted by OCHE on a rolling monthly basis, their inclusion in the quarterly BOR meetings do not follow immediately upon the prior month’s due date. As you are planning the timing of your proposal, be prepared for a certain degree of lag-time between submission to OCHE and inclusion upon the BOR meeting agenda.
